It has a laminated surface to prevent grease from penetrating the material. There are many thicknesses for the cake base board, and the most commonly used thickness is 2mm-5mm. Normally, it should not exceed 5mm, otherwise I would prefer you to choose MDF .
Section 4 --- Masonite board
These cake boards are made of medium density fiberboard (MDF), so we also call them MDF more often. It is durable and resistant to breakage, and the outside also acts as a sealant to resist grease. The surface coating of MDF plate makes it easy to clean and maintain the polished appearance through multiple use.
Before each use, cover it with foil, wrapping paper or soft candy to prevent grease from entering. Because of this inconvenience, these plates are usually used only between cake layers to provide structural support. MDF has a variety of thicknesses to choose from, the most commonly used thickness is 3mm-6mm.

What size of cake board do I need?
When serving as the bottom of the cake, you should leave about 2 "- 4" gaps on each side of the cake. Therefore, your cake board should be 4 "- 8" larger than the cake. For multi-layer cake, the size of the bucket should be the same as the size of the cake.
Can I use the cake board and cake box?
Actully, when you put the cake into the box, you should always use the cake plate, because the cake box is easy to bend under the weight, so if there is no support of the cake plate, your cake will also bend.
Why is the actual size of my cake board slightly smaller than expected?
