Corrugated Cake Board
There are corrugated cake base boards and cake drums in this category.
What’s the difference between corrugated cake base board and cake drum? That is, their edge and thickness. Generally, the thickness of cake drum is 12mm, also can be 3mm, 6mm, 8mm, 9mm, 10mm and the other thickness the multiple of 3mm, as for cake base board, 3mm in normal, also for 6mm.
Another major difference is that the edge of the cake drum is covered by foil paper but the edge of the cake base board without the covered paper.
Definitely, different thicknesses will be used for different weights of the cake. And because of the different thickness, the size also will be different when using. Such as, a 3mm corrugated cake base board can only support a 14 "cake at maximum, but a 12mm cake drum can support a 30" cake at maximum. So it’s better to choose the board according to the different weight of cake.
If you choose the wrong cake board, the board will be easy to bend. What’s more, the cake will be dropped from the board. I think no one would like to see this situation, so it’s best to consider how much cake you want to use the cake board to hold before buying.

Double Gray Cake Board
We also can call it a hard board or cardboard. Maybe some clients didn’t know what’s this material was. MDF Cake Board
This cake board is mainly used in Europe, Australia, and the Philippines. That’s because they are normally made with very heavy cake and tier cake. MDF cake board is also called Masonite cake board. Generally, they are 6mm thick. What’s more, there are 3mm, 4mm, 5mm and 9mm on sale for this material cake board. Only a 3mm MDF cake board also can hold 2 layer cake inside.
What needs to be noticed is that the size shouldn’t be so big, so that the cake board can be held accordingly. It’s the same reason as the corrugated board and the double gray board. Different heavy cakes choose different sizes and thickness of the cake board.
The big difference between MDF cake board and the other two material cake board is that the MDF cake board can hold the heavier the cake, for example, for thickness, 1 piece 12mm cake drum can hold 10 kilogram the dumb bell, for double gray board, at least 5mm, but for MDF cake board only 3mm can solve it.
As for the color of MDF cake board, the best selling color is matte white. The secondary is silver and gold grape pattern. I think each pattern in the MDF cake board will be very vivid, because it’s very flat on the surface. If you just put it on the wall, from a long view, you may see it is one part of the wall.
So you can even use different colors or design the MDF cake board to decorate your home. Said to decoration, for the cake, it’s better to order the bigger cake board than your cake 1-2inch or so, so that you can make more decoration for your cake or add thanks card or put syrup around the cake.
