How To Cover A Cake Board With Foil?

How I usually make and cover cake boards for my cake board DIY projects. But this is not just it. In most cases, when I use plain foil to cover my cake boards, I don’t quite like to leave my cake boards plain and not decorated.

So most of the time, I cover them with fondant (for fondant covered cakes). Other times, I add some other decorations to it (in the form of fondant cut-outs, candles, doilies, etc).

1.Choose a good foil paper

Choose the appropriate aluminum foil according to the size of the product. For example, if you need 1000 cake boards with a thickness of 10 inches and 12mm, you need to choose each sheet of paper without wasting too much. At this time, you will calculate a reasonable size.

For example, the size of our sheet paper is 35x47 inches. This size allows the chef to cut the circle you need to wrap the 10-inch cake drum. If you want to make the edge, the 10-inch cake board needs a 12-inch round aluminum foil and paper.

Choose a smaller weight, so that it can be folded more flexibly, and the edges will not look wrinkled as much. It is recommended to choose 182 grams. If the cake tray is relatively thin, you can choose 175 grams or 125 grams to wrap.

2.Cutting the aluminum foil paper

To save the paper waste, you need to calculate according to the cake drum you need, and then use the machine to cut the size of a large cake board into 2 inches, just like the picture below, a lot of aluminum foil will be cut into multiple 10-inch circles Shape, the round paper is measured by the machine first, and then a round mold is installed, so that the mold can cut the aluminum foil paper, and the edge of the mold can be cut or not cut.

The cut edges are easier to glue together with glue.The smooth edge needs to be cut. The top piece of paper is 10 inches, and the bottom piece of paper is also 10 inches. The bigger around the edge is about 1.2 times the thickness of the cake drum, so that the edge can be well wrapped. If you cut it like this, the order of production will change. First stick the edge, and then stick the paper on the back.

After the paper on the back is pasted, press it with a heavy object for a day, and then stick the aluminum foil on the front. After that, you can stack them all together and press them with heavy objects for a day to complete.

If there is adhesive failure in the inspection the next day, you will need to use some glue again to consolidate the edge again and it will be perfect.

3.Make smooth edges

After the above materials have been prepared, then put the raw material corrugated cake on top of the aluminum foil, and then put it in a good position so that the cake holder does not move. Beautiful, and then apply glue according to the cut edge.

If there is no glue, you can also choose transparent glue to stick the raised part a little bit, so that the back is pasted according to this operation method. This is the practice of a cake board used by a small cake shop. If you can afford it, you can still choose to use a small machine to assist you, so that the back looks more beautiful, and it will not fall off so easily.

4.Using the cake board

If it is not easy to rotate during use, it will easily fall off. We will give you some starch glue at this time. You only need to apply it a little bit. It will become very strong after a day of pressing with a heavy object.

The tools you need at this time are scissors, transparent glue and heavy objects.For most beginners, the wrapped cake tray is easy to operate, and the DIY one may not be so beautiful.
