- What size board do I need for a 10 inch cake?
When you make the base of your cake, you should leave about 2″ to 4″ Spaces on each side of the cake for easy lifting and fondue customization. So, your cake board should be 4″ -8 “bigger than your cake. So a 10-inch cake should have a 12-16-inch cake board.
- What size cake board should I use?
The size of the cake board is about 1 or 2 inches larger than the cake so that the sides of the cake don’t crush the cake. Be sure to leave room to secure the cake to the board with icing to prevent it from shifting during shipping.
- What can I substitute for a cake board?
When making cake boards at home, you can use ingredients you already have at home. Cardboard, tin foil, and even wrapping paper. By using scissors or an Exacto knife, you can cut the cardboard to the exact size you need, then cover it with wrapping paper or foil.
The drum board is much thicker than a standard cake board, which is made of thick cardboard, usually about 12mm thick. Drum boards are great for heavier cakes like giant sponge cakes, fruit cakes and tiered wedding cakes.
